dswilson5.jpg I am an evolutionist who studies all aspects of humanity in addition to the biological world, as I relate in my book Evolution for Everyone: How Darwin's Theory Can Change the Way We Think About Our Lives. In addition to my academic research, I manage a number of programs and websites for expanding evolution beyond the biological sciences in higher education(EvoS), public policy formulation (The Evolution Institute), community based research (Binghamton Neighborhood Project) and the study of religion (Evolutionary Religious Studies).

I am an evolutionist who studies all aspects of humanity in addition to the biological world. I am best known for championing the theory of multilevel selection, which explains how adaptations can evolve at all levels of the biological hierarchy, from genes to ecosystems. My academic books include Unto Others: The Evolution and Psychology of Unselfish Behavior (with Elliott Sober), Darwin's Cathedral: Evolution, Religion, and the Nature of Society, and The Literary Animal: Evolution and the Nature of Narrative (co-edited with Jonathan Gottschall). My books for a general audience include Evolution for Everyone: How Darwin's Theory Can Change the Way We Think About Our Lives and the forthcoming Evolving the City: An Evolutionist Contemplates Changing the World--One City at a Time.

In addition to my personal research and writing, I manage a number of programs and websites:

EvoS (for Evolutionary Studies and pronounced as one word), a program for expanding evolutionary training beyond the biological sciences in higher education, which itself is expanding into a worldwide consortium of programs.

The Evolution Institute, a think tank that provides a conduit from the world of evolutionary science to the world of public policy formulation.

The Binghamton Neighborhood Project, which applies evolutionary theory to community-based research.
